Colorful Stones

For my birthday, I went out with some of my closest friends from DC. We had a great time- and I spent the night dancing away. I wore 2 necklaces that my mom had sent me for my birthday – all made up of semiprecious stones- amethyst, citrine, peri-dot, blue topaz and pink topaz. It was on a 28 k yello gold chain. I wore a white short Cinderella- puffy dress, and I thought the dress complemented my jewelry well. I am really loving semi precious stones, and the necklaces are definitely 2 of my favorites from Kaye Gems.

Do you have any favorite jewelry? Do you find it difficult to match your jewelry to your outfits? Please share! I’d love to see and hear what you wear on special occasions.

xoxo,
Kaye

My Zonia

Posted in Bags, Blair Waldorf, Earrings, Events, Forever 21, H&M, jewelry, kaye gems by kayemlin on August 5, 2011

I am surrounded by great friends, and one of my bestfriend’s name is Zonia. We’re kind of opposites in many ways. She gets pissed off easily and will let you know it. I don’t really get mad, but when I do, I ignore people. I don’t open up about my negative thinking much. Many times I push my feelings aside; I don’t know how to hold grudges for a long time. She holds grudges, and she teaches me to be more of a b**ch so that we girls can’t be taken advantage of. 😉 She’s also really blunt while I try to be more diplomatic. I think my culture is to blame. In Burmese, we have a saying called, ” Ah-na-dae” which means you don’t want to be of inconvenience to someone else. I’m sick of that ” ah-na-dae”. Now I say how I feel, lol because I’ve realized you get more of what you want by being honest, and it’s stressful to live in that Burmese culture. My mom is so strict, and it was really stressful living in that atmosphere. lol I love her,but my mom and I would get into many disagreements because of the culture shock.

Zonia helps me suppress that Ah-nah-dae. lol She’s a great friend. We don’t talk or see each other all the time, but when we do talk, we have these great conversations about love, relationships, work, friendships and people. She knows more about me sometimes than I know myself when it comes to relationships. She’s also kind of…fancy. She’s in the hospitality industry, so she likes things to be perfect and top notch. I could care less. I mean, ” Sure, which girl doesn’t want to be wined and dined?” lol but my friend takes it to the next level. When Zonia visited DC, we stayed at the W hotel – right across from the White House for a night. These pictures are almost 2 years old. She was the first person that came to visit me when I moved to the new city. Missing her and my other girls from New York. They’re all crazy. lol

I was wearing jewelry from Kaye Gems- all pearls- pearl earrings and a pearl ring.

My friend, Raymond Wu also joined us on our adventure in DC. Ray has a cooking blog: http://www.cookingagents.com . He makes great treats. Yumm… 😉

Sapphire and Diamond Earrings from Madagascar and Sri Lanka

I’ve been pretty busy creating stories for work and although I haven’t updated in a while, I will make it up to you with the updates that I will be doing incessantly this week.

Lately we’ve had a lot of request for Sapphire jewelry, and I think it might be due to the news of the Royal Wedding and the popularity of Princess Kate’s wedding ring. Sapphire and diamonds do scream out ” royalty”, I must admit. 🙂 I love Sapphire and Rubies. I’ve always said that- maybe even more so than diamonds. Don’t quote me on it; I don’t think my mother would approve. I just can’t help it that I like color and shine! Diamonds are gorgeous too. After all, they are the most expensive gems. Speaking of which, I do have a video story that I just made on arguably the most famous diamond in the world, but I’ll save that for a later post. 😉

For now, I’ll leave you with pictures of the 2 sets of Sapphire and diamond earrings that we just created. One pair of earrings are Sapphires from Madagascar. The other pair is a set from Sri Lanka. Can you guess which is which? And the cts.? Which one do you prefer?

The Royal Wedding

Posted in diamonds, Earrings, Events, fashion, jewelry by kayemlin on April 29, 2011

I received a call from my mom at 7 am ( Eastern Time) asking me if I’ve been watching the Royal Wedding on the news. I turned the TV on and was glued to it. Their wedding just made my day, and how coincidental, my grandparents’ anniversary falls on their wedding day ( April 29th) making this day more special for me. lol I will admit that I was even late for work this morning because I was glued to my TV watching what  looks like a real Fairy Tale come to life on my plasma. The video was also in High Definition which added to the effect of the story assembling- I thought I was there in London – in real life capturing the whole experience of the wedding. lol

Kate Middleton looked beautiful. She was wearing a dress by  Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and white diamond drop earrings to match her whole white ensemble. Kate was also wearing something borrowed from Queen Elizabeth herself. Queen Elizabeth’s mum had gotten the Cartier ” Halo” tiara in 1936 and given that same tiara to her daughter, Queen Elizabeth herself on her 18th birthday. I loved how Kate kept her attire simple, elegant and stunning at the same time. I was thinking that her dress and her jewelry would be more flashy, but she kept it simple yet luxurious. Especially within this economy and seeing that the whole world is not going to get out of the downfall of this economy anytime soon, I think her choice of dress and wedding attire is top notch fine choice. There were so much controversy on how extravagant and lavish the wedding would be while the lower middle class and the poor are suffering from the economy.

What do you think of the Royal Wedding and Kate’s dress?

Here are some pictures I thought captured the best moments of the Royal wedding. These are all AP images and AP photos. All rights belong to them.

Here is the video I grabbed from the Telegraph.co.uk of them kissing. You can tell that they are both in love, and let’s hope that she gets her Happily Ever After…

Sapphire and Diamonds

I was born in September so my birth stone is Sapphire, and since September 22nd 1986, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Sapphire jewelry. Rubies and Sapphires are my favorite (even more so than diamonds, can you believe it? hah) My mom and I recently designed Sapphire jewelry for a client, and I was more than ecstatic to have a voice and see my designs come to life. Our special client wanted a Sapphire necklace so here are some of the necklaces and rings that we designed. Hope you like them. This is the first of the 2011 collection to come.

Wedding Attire- Gossip Girl Style

Posted in Blair Waldorf, Events, fashion, Gossip Girl, jewelry, special occassions, style, Uncategorized by kayemlin on August 19, 2010

I’m going to a wedding this weekend, and I don’t really have any thing to wear. I’ve been looking at Gossip Girl’s fashion and I’m trying to get some ideas thrown in my head. I love Blair’s fashion sense; she wears really appropriate attire yet it is so chic. Considering that I”ll be with family at this wedding, appropriateness is my number one priority. However, I still want to look fashionable. Here are some of the outfits that I picked out from GG. Two of the outfits that Blair is wearing are actually from wedding episodes. Can you guess which one?

I know that what ever outfit I wear, I would be content, because I will accessorize, accessorize, ACCESSORIZE! Can’t wait to show you the shoes, bag and jewelry I’ll be wearing. 😉  Tune in for that.

Just wanted to write up a quick post before I leave for work. I wanted to show you the new jewelry pieces my mom has coming up for Kaye Gems.

What do you think?

This is my favorite- the diamond ring and the bracelet. The bracelet is made up of gold and crystal stones. It is not expensive either.

Work Chic – Different Types of Style to Wear to Work…

Posted in Bags, fashion, jewelry, Maternity Wear, style, Work Chic, Work Clothing by kayemlin on July 15, 2010

I’ve had people send me messages and tweet to me about the outfits that they can wear to work…and I wanted to show that you can wear appropriate clothing to work yet be fashionable and show off your own flair as well. There are so many types of clothing you can wear in the office- that is classy, hip, fashionable and yet appropriate. It doesn’t have to be just the typical blazer or jacket suit ( which I love by the way), you can style it up to your needs.

My 2 coworkers have let me share their style with you. Ma Thetsu is the girl in the black pants, zara vest, shirt and scarf.  She is so fashionable- I love her eclectic style, and she can pull off wearing anything- especially pants. She comes in the office stylish yet comfortable- that’s her motto. You can never miss her because her fashion is always up to date. The Zara vest is one of a kind. It is short in the front- as the buttons are attached to the short vest yet long on the sides. It looks somewhat like she’s wearing a shawl; the vest gives on-lookers a second glance.

I’m wearing a sheer white blouse from XOXO and a jumper black dress. I think white and black colors are such big staples in the closet and can be worn at any time and on any day. The dress was a good investment as I can wear it with any blouse underneath or even without. As long as I mix and match my accessories, it doesn’t look like I’m wearing the same thing twice. 😉

Ma Oo is pregnant, and comfort is a big requirement for her attire. She needs to know that she’ll be feeling good all day. Dresses are part of her staple wear, as they are breezy and easy to put on as well as easy to wear throughout the day. Ma Oo always mixes great accessories to her outfits- from colorful bags to big jewelry. Ma Oo says the best part about maternity clothing is that it doesn’t look like ” maternity clothing”. She can wear the same fashionable peasantry dresses and tops in her closet, and pull it off as if they were maternity wear.

Ruby Ring- Blair Waldorf Style

Posted in Blair Waldorf, Gossip Girl, Ring, Rubies by kayemlin on July 14, 2010

Blair Waldorf always wears a ruby ring, and the one stone I love more than the all the others is a ruby. Because I come from the land of rubies, Burma also known as Myanmar, ruby stones will always have a special place in my heart- it comes from my home.

Photo: Gossip Girl

I’m not wearing a ruby ring, simply because Blair Waldorf wears one,  although it has become such a major plus… she is after all a fashion icon, I am wearing a ruby ring because I think they are just utter delight.

I know they say that a diamond is a girl’s best friend, but a ruby is just as good a friend and as appealing in my eyes. What’s your favorite stone?

Classy means Confidence in your Clothing and Style

Posted in Earrings, Events, Pendant, Set- Earrings, Set: Pendant, special occassions by kayemlin on July 12, 2010

Note to Reader: I’m sorry I keep posting up old pictures, but I realized that I have so many old pictures from my computer, and it is so relevant to the fashion that I wanted to discuss in the blog.

When we think about high fashion, we picture great balls, high society- elegant dining and classy people. Well, I think ” high fashion” is just an image that every girl has to create for herself. Fashion doesn’t mean labels ; it only matters how comfortable you are in your dress, your jewelry and with your date. ( Company does matter when you go to events, which is why I always prefer to take a friend. You’re bound to have a good time.)

I look back at the Senior Ball I had gone to my Senior year in College and realized just how great of a time I had. ( 2 years ago) I wore a long golden gown from Bloomingdale’s and an Amethyst set of earrings, necklace and ring from KayeGems. I don’t remember the shoes. My friend, Evelyn had on a beautiful dress from French Connection.

We both wore very different styles to the ” Senior Ball”, and I think Evelyn and I both looked like ourselves and both showed off our style well. 😉
