Colorful Stones

For my birthday, I went out with some of my closest friends from DC. We had a great time- and I spent the night dancing away. I wore 2 necklaces that my mom had sent me for my birthday – all made up of semiprecious stones- amethyst, citrine, peri-dot, blue topaz and pink topaz. It was on a 28 k yello gold chain. I wore a white short Cinderella- puffy dress, and I thought the dress complemented my jewelry well. I am really loving semi precious stones, and the necklaces are definitely 2 of my favorites from Kaye Gems.

Do you have any favorite jewelry? Do you find it difficult to match your jewelry to your outfits? Please share! I’d love to see and hear what you wear on special occasions.

xoxo,
Kaye

Birthday Bling

I’ve finally turned the big 25, and so far there is no quarter life crisis. Life’s been good, and there have been many changes. I moved to a new house and have been ecstatic with my stay there. My walk home from work and to work are a little longer, but I like the exercise. ( I’ll post pics of my new house soon!)

On my birthday, my coworkers surprised me with a birthday cake, and I had gotten so many well wishes from everyone- family and friends. Nice to feel loved. My phone ran out of batteries because of the many alerts, but it survived after a little charging. I didn’t do much on my actual birthday, but one of my friends bought me a drink at a bar. I left after one drink, and instead opted to go home, read a book and eat a slice of cake by myself way past bedtime. I thought that was living on the wild side- eating carbs right before bed! I’m feeling old!

I wore the gold pearl necklace my mom had sent by Kaye Gems. She designed it herself. I also wore earrings and a ring from Kaye Gems. I love the uniqueness of all the jewelry. The ring has a leaf shape curve to it, and my earrings remind me of earrings from traditional old times. What do you think? I have to thank my friend/colleague Donald ( who is also in the pictures ) for the photos. He took pictures of the jewelry for me on my birthday. lol

The Secret to Success- there are 2 noted in this post!

Posted in diamonds, jewelry, kaye gems, necklace, Work Chic, Work Clothing by kayemlin on September 9, 2011

Hi All,

I’m just itching to promote my website, http://www.kayegems.com – my mom’s and my jewelry company. I really should do more to promote it, but my passion for my work in Journalism-pursuing stories and personal life have been getting in the way! However, I love jewelry, fashion and that is my other passion. I revealed to a guy and a girlfriend that I go home and prepare outfits for the week. ( I don’t do it every week, but I try to do it at least the night before, and put thought into my clothing. I’m pretty sure I scared the guy off lol and my girlfriend responded with a shock, ” Jeez, wow that’s so anal of you.” lol ) That’s the secret to success – be assertive and dress smart! I always choose my jewelry to give that extra UMPH (I’m serious and Independent and I want to Make an Impression look), and I’ve always enjoyed seeing my mom put a little more spark and attention into her clothing and style with a little jewelry on. I’m going to have an auction soon ( online as well as in real life) so I will keep everyone up to date with the planning! Also feel free to contact me if you are interested in the gems. They’re all whole sale! http://www.kayegems.com Revamping website soon!

I’m just so captivated by people who are ambitious and driven. I think I owe a lot of my drive to my mom. I’ve always seen her really hard at work, and my parents have sacrificed so much to get my two brothers and me to where we are today. ( And let me tell ya, they never let us forget it…they’ll go on for hours giving us lectures about it.) I just met a man today who came from Burma with nothing – only 16 dollars in his pocket; now he’s a millionaire. We interviewed him for a story – on how he was invited to speak at President Obama’s speech on the economy and jobs yesterday. He was sitting right next to Michelle Obama. He is the Founder & CEO of a sushi company and owns many sushi companies around the US. With $16 dollars in his pocket coming to the States, he became a self made millionaire. We asked him what his secret to success was and how he got here. He said, “hard work and determination”. He used to work on average 12 – 16 hours a day. He said, “Sometimes I used to work 24 hours a day.” The secret to his success was that he kept going…When he lived in Burma, he was a pre-med major, and he revealed that he got kicked out of school, however that didn’t stop him from pursing his interest and becoming a business man.

So with that in mind…I am posing in the pictures below with two of my loves near me- reporting the news ( Journalism) and wearing my Black Onyx, Gold and Diamond necklace with a diamond ring ( Kaye Gems-business with my mom). Here I am with my 2 loves. ❤ Will be posting more jewelry soon. Contact gemskaye@gmail.com if you’re interested. Will be revamping website-www.kayegems.com soon! So be sure to come back and check it out. xoxo

Promo video

Posted in fashion, jewelry, kaye gems, Pendant by kayemlin on August 31, 2011

Hi All,

Today was a mildly hectic day. I’m going away for the weekend for a story, and I’ve been preparing for that shoot, however, I also had to do a promotion shoot for our Magazine show today! I wrote my script yesterday; however, I wasn’t dressed to be on TV. So… in a few moment’s notice,I had to get dressed, do my hair and put on the make up- meaning mostly the lipstick and a little lip gloss. It always seems to do the trick for me on TV. Hope I can share the promotion video soon. This promotional presentation was to showcase our show and what we’re doing to the rest of the East Asian Pacific division at my agency. It’s not to be aired yet.

I’m wearing a necklace from Kaye Gems – a pink topaz pendant ( which I will present on the blog soon), a blazer of my mom’s years ago and a laced top. I’m also wearing a penciled pink/beige skirt that you can’t see on camera. 🙂 Here are the pics. Sorry if you’re not able to see the pendant well. I will be writing another post just on this pendant and matching earrings alone.

I always think I look funny on video. lol

My Zonia

Posted in Bags, Blair Waldorf, Earrings, Events, Forever 21, H&M, jewelry, kaye gems by kayemlin on August 5, 2011

I am surrounded by great friends, and one of my bestfriend’s name is Zonia. We’re kind of opposites in many ways. She gets pissed off easily and will let you know it. I don’t really get mad, but when I do, I ignore people. I don’t open up about my negative thinking much. Many times I push my feelings aside; I don’t know how to hold grudges for a long time. She holds grudges, and she teaches me to be more of a b**ch so that we girls can’t be taken advantage of. 😉 She’s also really blunt while I try to be more diplomatic. I think my culture is to blame. In Burmese, we have a saying called, ” Ah-na-dae” which means you don’t want to be of inconvenience to someone else. I’m sick of that ” ah-na-dae”. Now I say how I feel, lol because I’ve realized you get more of what you want by being honest, and it’s stressful to live in that Burmese culture. My mom is so strict, and it was really stressful living in that atmosphere. lol I love her,but my mom and I would get into many disagreements because of the culture shock.

Zonia helps me suppress that Ah-nah-dae. lol She’s a great friend. We don’t talk or see each other all the time, but when we do talk, we have these great conversations about love, relationships, work, friendships and people. She knows more about me sometimes than I know myself when it comes to relationships. She’s also kind of…fancy. She’s in the hospitality industry, so she likes things to be perfect and top notch. I could care less. I mean, ” Sure, which girl doesn’t want to be wined and dined?” lol but my friend takes it to the next level. When Zonia visited DC, we stayed at the W hotel – right across from the White House for a night. These pictures are almost 2 years old. She was the first person that came to visit me when I moved to the new city. Missing her and my other girls from New York. They’re all crazy. lol

I was wearing jewelry from Kaye Gems- all pearls- pearl earrings and a pearl ring.

My friend, Raymond Wu also joined us on our adventure in DC. Ray has a cooking blog: http://www.cookingagents.com . He makes great treats. Yumm… 😉

Topaz

I must be boring you with all the blue jewelry. The one I’m wearing in this post is blue topaz. It’s slightly different from the Sapphire jewelry – lighter in color and looks a little bit like crystal when in the light. However, it is a stone- a gem and not a crystal. This whole set is a tear dropped / oval shape. Hope you like it.

My next post is about a diamond and the mystery/ curse behind it. Stay tuned for that one! 😉

Sapphire and Diamond Earrings from Madagascar and Sri Lanka

I’ve been pretty busy creating stories for work and although I haven’t updated in a while, I will make it up to you with the updates that I will be doing incessantly this week.

Lately we’ve had a lot of request for Sapphire jewelry, and I think it might be due to the news of the Royal Wedding and the popularity of Princess Kate’s wedding ring. Sapphire and diamonds do scream out ” royalty”, I must admit. 🙂 I love Sapphire and Rubies. I’ve always said that- maybe even more so than diamonds. Don’t quote me on it; I don’t think my mother would approve. I just can’t help it that I like color and shine! Diamonds are gorgeous too. After all, they are the most expensive gems. Speaking of which, I do have a video story that I just made on arguably the most famous diamond in the world, but I’ll save that for a later post. 😉

For now, I’ll leave you with pictures of the 2 sets of Sapphire and diamond earrings that we just created. One pair of earrings are Sapphires from Madagascar. The other pair is a set from Sri Lanka. Can you guess which is which? And the cts.? Which one do you prefer?

The Royal Wedding

Posted in diamonds, Earrings, Events, fashion, jewelry by kayemlin on April 29, 2011

I received a call from my mom at 7 am ( Eastern Time) asking me if I’ve been watching the Royal Wedding on the news. I turned the TV on and was glued to it. Their wedding just made my day, and how coincidental, my grandparents’ anniversary falls on their wedding day ( April 29th) making this day more special for me. lol I will admit that I was even late for work this morning because I was glued to my TV watching what  looks like a real Fairy Tale come to life on my plasma. The video was also in High Definition which added to the effect of the story assembling- I thought I was there in London – in real life capturing the whole experience of the wedding. lol

Kate Middleton looked beautiful. She was wearing a dress by  Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and white diamond drop earrings to match her whole white ensemble. Kate was also wearing something borrowed from Queen Elizabeth herself. Queen Elizabeth’s mum had gotten the Cartier ” Halo” tiara in 1936 and given that same tiara to her daughter, Queen Elizabeth herself on her 18th birthday. I loved how Kate kept her attire simple, elegant and stunning at the same time. I was thinking that her dress and her jewelry would be more flashy, but she kept it simple yet luxurious. Especially within this economy and seeing that the whole world is not going to get out of the downfall of this economy anytime soon, I think her choice of dress and wedding attire is top notch fine choice. There were so much controversy on how extravagant and lavish the wedding would be while the lower middle class and the poor are suffering from the economy.

What do you think of the Royal Wedding and Kate’s dress?

Here are some pictures I thought captured the best moments of the Royal wedding. These are all AP images and AP photos. All rights belong to them.

Here is the video I grabbed from the Telegraph.co.uk of them kissing. You can tell that they are both in love, and let’s hope that she gets her Happily Ever After…

Pink Topaz Ring

Posted in diamonds, Events, fashion, jewelry, kaye gems, Ring, special occassions, style, Topaz, Uncategorized, Work Chic by kayemlin on March 30, 2011

Also from our 2011 collection is a new Pink Topaz ring. This is for the woman that likes big, bold, ” bling” things. It really is a beauty, and it shines when the light touches it. I took a picture of everything on my blog with a small Kodak camera that I acquired from STAPLES more than 2 years ago ( for my 22nd birthday). I’m still amazed that the pictures look good when the only light I use is natural sunlight. All I can say is that the jewelry speaks for itself when you see the shine of the stone in the photos. I’m not thinking about getting a new camera anytime soon. 🙂
